Leadership

The concept of leadership means many things to many people. One person’s strong leader is another person’s dictator. People can be perceived as great and successful leaders in their work lives, yet their personal lives are a shambles. True leadership, whether personal or corporate, makes a positives difference.

As people live, work, and raise families in the rapidly changing world of the 21st century, faced with financial insecurity and myriad stresses, they look for leadership to calm them in the midst of change, to tell them “things will be all right”, and to promise a happy ending. But leadership isn’t that simple. Leaders who promise a simple panacea have too often brought repression and a denial of right with their “easy” solutions.

One possible solution to this problem of leadership demand hard work, but it does bring result. It required that you accept personal responsibility and give leadership your self guide by values not popularity.

We may scoff at this; we think we can’t be a leader. I believe we will be surprised at what we can accomplish once we’ve made a personal leadership commitment. It takes only two actions to become a leader:

  1. Develop the necessary skills.
  2. Overcome our greatest barrier – fear.

Most people are afraid to stand out, to say what we feel, to risk criticized, or look foolish. This is the fear that stops us from being the leader we are looking for in this world. Becoming a leader can be frightening. It’s more comfortable being a follower in a crowd. But while our risk may be less as a follower, so, too, are the rewards.

We can choose what leadership means to us. It may be volunteering to sit on the board of a community organization. It may mean being the first person to volunteer to raise money for a day care. It may be having the courage to challenge ethical in a business, a government department, or a nonprofit.

A leader’s value is in his ability to find the value of other. True leaders make a positive different in the lives of peoples around them. They invite a shared vision so everyone contributes wholeheartedly to the success of the team.

Effective leaders demonstrate many critical qualities

  • Leader are solution oriented, they focus on the solutions, and not on the problems
  • Leader gives by focusing on the important issues, not necessarily the urgent one. Leader encourages others to focus on the most important issues.
  • Leader takes a long term approach, so their giving is sustainable, not burn it out.
  • Leader spends their time in building relationships. The mist effective giving takes place when is truth and respect.
  • Leader use guts feeling and sixth sense to their advantage. They serve with love and compassion.
  • Leaders create an enabling environment in which everyone is given a chance to mature to his potential. They also create a fun environment.

Sounds like quite a job description, doesn’t it? We can commit to building our leadership ability today. Work on our skills, and work on our fears.
